PIL alleges Adarsh-like illegality at Worli

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday directed the State government to file its response to a public interest litigation petition alleging illegality in sanctioning additional floor space index (FSI) to two cooperative societies of politicians in the upscale Worli seaface area.

The petition filed by Amit Maru has said the government illegally deleted the reservation of a garden plot in the Coastal Regulation Zone area to allow additional FSI to the Sukhada and Shubhads societies. He has likened the illegality to the Adarsh scam.

He has pleaded that the court order a committee to investigate the wrongdoings, and take action against the errant officials. It has prayed that the court restrict the private societies from using the garden land.

In his petition, Mr. Maru stated, “Once the garden was classified as being in the residential zone, full FSI from this garden land was extracted and transferred to the plots of the said private societies. What was unprecedented was that the FSI of the land, which was not owned by the Government of Maharashtra but was separately owned by the Municipal Corporation, was taken away without taking the approval of the Municipal Corporation.”
