Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has rejected demands for the dismissal of the Congress-NCP government in Maharashtra in the wake of their debacle in the state. Calling the demand “meaningless”Mr Pawar  pointed out that these polls were for the Lok Sabha.

Reacting to the mandate on his Twitter account, he said, the Congress and NCP will continue to work together. “The Congress, NCP and other constituents of the UPA will have to play the role of a responsible opposition which we will play,” Mr Pawar said.

Congratulating Mr Modi for the BJP’s victory, Mr Pawar said, “The numbers that the NDA got will ensure stability, which is a positive side of the polls.”
