Navi Mumbai: Within two days of taking charge as Panvel City Municipal Commissioner, Dr. Sudhakar Shinde carried out a drive against illegal banners and hoardings on Saturday.

The anti-encroachment cell of the Panvel City Municipal Commission (PCMC) brought down 307 illegal hoardings in different nodes in the PCMC jurisdiction.

This was the first such drive carried out in the PCMC area after two-and-a-half months. Sources from the corporation said the civic chief made it clear on the day he took charge that he wanted Panvel City to be a model for other cities.

Dr. Shinde told The Hindu , “My agenda is very clear. I wanted the Panvel municipal limits to be beautiful, and a smart city that will not tolerate any illegal activities.”

He said most of the illegal hoardings brought down were political ones. “This time, we have just brought down the banners. If we find repeated flouting of norms, we will file FRI against the offenders,” the municipal commissioner said.

After taking charge, Dr. Shinde also visited Kharghar, Kalamboli and Kamothe to review various issues, and urged residents to lodge their complaints on the toll-free number 1800227701.
