Panvel body identified, two arrested

The Panvel Taluka police have identified the man found shot dead near Dehrang dam on April 28, and arrested two people in connection with the murder.

Omkar Kundan Aarne (21), was a resident of Pune, who had gone missing on April 27 from his residence at Nagpur Chawl in Yerwada. The arrested men, Nahushankar Dharma Koli and Dharamveer Virendra Singh, are from Kombadbhuje in Panvel.

According to an officer from the Yerwada police station, Aarne’s wife, Sudha, reported him missing on May 8, but her phone has been switched off since and she has not returned to the police station. The Hindu , too, found her phone to be switched off.

The Panvel Taluka police have refused to divulge details. “We can do so only after the facts are verified. A few accused are on the run,” ACP, Panvel division, Prakash Nilewad said.

As per the missing person’s report, a copy of which is with The Hindu , Aarne lived with his wife and their infant. When he went missing, he had ₹1,000 and a mobile phone with him, which were not found with the body.
