A Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) Volvo bus ran over a 15-year-old boy at around 10.15 a.m. on Friday. The incident took place when Ramesh Rajaram Bobade, a Class IX student of Municipal School in Vashi, was heading to a stationery shop to buy chart paper during recess along with his classmate Babu Shankar Pawar.

Ramesh and Babu, both residents of Kopri village in Vashi, went together to school at 8 a.m. and return home at around 12 p.m. every day on their cycle. On Friday morning, the duo realised in class that they had forgotten to buy chart paper. Assistant Police Inspector Rupesh Naik from Vashi Police Station said, “During recess time, they left for the stationery shop at around 10.15 a.m. when the NMMT Volvo bus heading from Vashi bus depot to Thane mowed them down near Gaodevi temple.”

Ramesh was rushed to Vashi NMMC hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. The bus driver, Deepak Patil, was arrested and presented before the court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
