Navi Mumbai: With only one company bidding for the design and project management consultancy tender for an international standard integrated sports complex at Ghansoli, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) will now re-invite bids.

“Only one company has bid for the tender. To make it more competitive, the civic body is likely to reissue this tender within fifteen days. There should at least be three companies bidding for it,” said city engineer Mohan Dagaonkar.

The tender for the ₹350-crore project was floated on March 17, and the last date for submission was May 30.

The NMMC plans to develop the international standard sports complex on a 36-acre plot in Sector 13, Ghansoli. The stadium is slated to have a seating capacity of 5,000, a multi-purpose hostel, ample parking space, facilities for indoor games like badminton, baseball and carom, an Olympics-sized swimming pool, and facilities for outdoor games like football, cricket, lawn tennis and synthetic track.

Apart from the consultation and design work, the company hired will also be responsible for getting clearance from the National Coastal Zone Management Authority as the area falls near a creek and mangroves.

The consultancy period will be six months, and after the details are submitted and approved, the tender for the construction work will be floated. “It will take around 24 months for the construction after the tender is awarded,” Mr. Dagaonkar said.

The plot for the stadium was handed over to NMMC by the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) on November 24, 2016.
