A driver attached to the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) was suspended on Monday for allegedly attempting to set a ST bus on fire.

On Saturday, a security guard saw Sunil Akotkar, who is attached to the Wada division in Palghar, alight from the bus and flee after setting the vehicle ablaze. The guard then alerted fellow workers at the bus depot and the flames were doused, said inspector Ravindra Naik of Wada police station.

“Two Rexine seat covers were reduced to ashes. We have not registered an FIR against Akotkar. The reason why Akotkar set the bus on fire is not known yet,” said Mr. Naik.

In May, three buses were set afire allegedly by MSRTC workers in Wada. While one bus was charred, the other two suffered minor damage. The MSRTC had suspended three workers.
