Parents of TV actor Pratyusha Banerjee, who allegedly committed suicide due to differences with her boyfriend earlier this year, on Friday accused the Mumbai police of shielding her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, and demanded a CBI probe into their daughter’s death.

Pratyusha, 24, best remembered for her portrayal of Anandi in the popular tele-serial Balika Vadhu , was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her Goregaon apartment on April 1 this year. Following allegations by her parents, the Bangur Nagar police registered a case of abetment to suicide against Mr. Singh and filed a charge sheet against him earlier this month.

Addressing the media at Andheri, Pratyusha’s mother Somya Banerjee alleged that Mr. Singh, who was living in with their daughter, had murdered her. She accused Bangur Nagar police of not investigating the case properly.

Raising questions on the investigation by PI Deepak Phatangare with Bangur Nagar police station, who was the Investigating Officer in the case, Ms. Banerjee said the police had reached the hospital after Pratyusha’s body was taken there.

“Rahul is also known to be addicted to narcotic substances and has a cheating case against him. Pratyusha’s viscera report has not been given to us by the police, not the recordings of telephonic conversations between Rahul and Pratyusha. Rahul had forced Pratyusha to abort their child, and this information was concealed by Rahul,” she alleged.

She said Pratyusha had travelled to Ranchi before her death and purchased jewellery, which was disposed of by Singh. She also alleged that Singh had sold off the car that Pratyusha had purchased on loan.

Mrs Banerjee said they are yet to get a copy of the charge sheet against Mr. Singh. “We want justice. We want the case to be handed over to the CBI,” she said.
