Pankaj moves HC against NBW

May 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 12, 2016 07:27 pm IST - Mumbai:

Pankaj Bhujbal, son of NCP leader and former deputy chief minister Chhagan Bhujbal, filed a petition in the Bombay High Court on Thursday, seeking cancellation of the non-bailable warrant (NBW) issued against him. The petition is expected to come up for hearing before a division Bench of Justice A. S. Gadkari and Justice M. S. Karnik on Friday.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court rejected Mr. Bhujbal’s plea for cancellation of the NBW and asked him to approach the Bombay High Court. “You did not go to the Bombay High Court and came to the Supreme Court. Let the high court first examine the matter.”

On April 27, a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act court had issued a NBW against Mr. Bhujbal and others, which was returnable on May 11. He has been, since then, on the run. The Enforcement Directorate has filed an 11,500-page charge sheet naming Mr. Chhagan Bhujbal, Pankaj, nephew Sameer, and several others in a money-laundering case.
