New export policy for fly ash soon

March 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - MUMBAI:

The Maharashtra government will soon implement a new policy for exporting fly ash generated from coal-based power plants, State Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Thursday.

Mr Bawankule said the disposal of fly ash generated from combustion of coal used in power plants is costly, and hence the government had decided to implement an export policy for fly ash which could generate a revenue of Rs 1,500 crore. “There is a great demand in Singapore and Dubai from fly ash generated from power plants, and the new export policy will soon be placed before the cabinet,” Mr Bawankule told reporters.

He said some cement companies had also offered to purchase the coal waste and the proceeds from such sale will be used for the development of villages where the coal-based plants are located.
