MU introduces Masters in leadership science

July 16, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - MUMBAI:

The University of Mumbai will be offering a fulltime two-year master’s programme on leadership development from this academic year.

Course co-ordinator Dr. Radhakrishnan Pillai said, “It is a unique and different course introduced for the first time in India. With this programme, we don’t want managers to lead the society; we want leaders who can themselves manage, create and develop organisations and institutions.”

The university has over 50 management institutions offering masters programmes. The course is aimed at developing leaders in various fields who are competent and efficient in their respective organisations, thus bringing about social change and contribution to overall development of the nation. The course also aims to impart critical, logical and creative thinking in students.

Dr. Pillai, who has authored bestselling books like Chanakya in You , Corporate Chanakya , and co-authored Chanakya’s 7 secrets of leadership , said, “Indian institutes have not developed leadership programmes. An MBA can definitely help a graduate to become a better manager of a company, but we are actually looking at creating leaders who will be able to contribute much more than just managing things. We will be having some of the best brains from Mumbai and outside coming and teaching the students.”

The course requires students to complete a minimum of 96 credits, and the MA course comprises four semesters. The intake capacity is 60 for the first year of admission, and students will be selected based on a written test, group discussion and interview. The course will comprise both theory and practical components.
