Lathicharge on MLA: top cop sent on leave

March 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Mumbai:

Taking serious note of the lathi charge on two MLAs in Sindhudurg district, allegedly at the behest of the district Superintendent of Police, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday asked the latter to go on compulsory leave till the time the inquiry report is made public.

Nitesh Rane of Congress and Vaibhav Naik of Shiv Sena were beaten up by the police for protesting outside the District Collector’s office.

The Opposition, joined by the Sena, disrupted the Assembly proceedings four times, demanding action. Mr Fadnavis intervened, saying that a one-member committee would file the report on Monday, after which further action would be taken.
