JJ dean wants HC hearing

April 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - MUMBAI:

JJ Hospital Dean Dr TP Lahane told the Bombay High Court on Monday that he wants to be heard before the court decides on setting up a grievance committee in the hospital.

On April 9, striking resident doctors at JJ Hospital had called off their agitation after the HC appealed to them citing the plight of the poor who visit government hospitals.

A division bench of Justices Abhay Oka and Justice PD Naik was hearing a PIL by RTI activist Afak Anwar Mandaviya that demanded criminal action against the doctors for going on strike. Advocate Jagtap Shekhar, appearing for Dr Lahane, said his client wanted the HC to hear him before passing an order.

The bench told the petitioner that it would hear Dr Lahane before passing an order and asked him to implead the hospital dean as a respondent in the petition. The matter was adjourned till April 12.
