Govt portal not effective: Ex-CIC

June 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:14 pm IST - Mumbai:

Former Central Information Commissioner Shailesh Gandhi is miffed with the functioning of the State Government’s website that seeks to address public grievances, saying it had “no real intention” of establishing direct connect with people. He had filed an RTI query asking how many grievances had been received on the portal in the past six months, and how many had been redressed? He said he was astonished by the reply given by Public Information Officer, who sought exemption from giving details by invoking Section 8 (1) (f) of RTI Act, 2005. The Section deals with information received in confidence from foreign Governments. Mr. Gandhi said the reply was a ‘joke’. —PTI
