A Bollywood fashion designer has lodged a complaint against her childhood friend, her father, and a hockey player, for cheating her of Rs. 2.5 crore.
Babusa, who claims to have designed costumers for Vikram Bhatt’s Aitbaar and some films starring Amitabh Bachchan, said she had no option but to approach the DB Marg police in April 2016 against her best friend after realising that she was being cheated for the past two years. In her complaint, Babusa said that in 2014, her close friend Kanchi Shah convinced her that her father’s building in Shivaji Park was set for redevelopment, and offered to book a flat for her in the building for Rs. 2.5 crore. To win the trust of her friend completely, Ms. Shah also introduced her to hockey player Ms. Ruthdin Shah, who was also investing in the redevelopment. Ms. Shah also made Babusa speak to her father Manish, who was the owner of the property, to convince her of complete transparency.
However, when the project did not begin for months, Ms. Babusa suspected foul play involved. For months after the FIR, Kanchi Shah and her father evaded arrest by getting anticipatory bail. However, when the Supreme Court refused anticipatory bail, the Shahs and Ms. Ruthdin surrendered to the police. The police found there were more than 15 cases of cheating and cheque bouncing against them in police stations across the city. There are also cases against Ms. Ruthdin by many Bollywood actors for cheating.
