With the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections slated to be held in early 2017, the Congress on Friday sought civic ward delimitations and reservations at the earliest.
“In 2012, when the Congress was in power in the State, the ward delimitation announcement was over by August 19. But this government hasn’t even started the process. It will delay the reservation announcement of wards, affecting the preparations of all political parties,” said Mumbai Congress chief Sanjay Nirupam.
He added that the parties can decide candidates for the elections only after ward reservations are announced. “The candidate must get enough time to complete his or her preparations. This delay is not only an example of mismanagement of the BJP-Sena-led State government but is also harmful to all parties,” he said.
Earlier, Mr. Nirupam announced a three-kilometre human chain against global terrorism from Air India building to Taraporewala Aquarium on Saturday, to mark the birth anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi. “Rajiv Gandhi was a victim of terrorism. Our party stands against the terrorism menace, which has now covered not only us but the western world as well. We will protest against terrorism on Rajivji’s birth anniversary,” he said.
