A day after the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) demanded more seats in the upcoming Assembly polls, the Congress snubbed its alliance partner by asking it to not these issues public.
“We want more seats in the Assembly elections based on our performance in the recent Lok Sabha polls. Both parties should soon call a meeting on this issue,” said Nawab Malik, chief spokesperson of the NCP.
The NCP chief, Sharad Pawar, held a review meeting with the party’s Ministers from the State Cabinet on Sunday evening. A majority of leaders expressed their displeasure over the functioning of the State government.
The NCP leaders are said to be unhappy about the functioning of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, who they allege is delaying decisions on key issues, such as Local Body Tax (LBT) and Maratha reservation.
“We feel that the government should take decisions as fast as possible since the elections will be fought on our past performance,” said Mr. Malik. He added that Mr. Pawar is likely to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi to discuss these issues.
However, Mr. Chavan, on Monday replied to the NCP’s demands saying the issue need not be discussed in public.
Replying to the allegations of not taking decisions, he said that he is working for the people. “I am taking decisions for the people and getting the work done. I am sure the public will support me,” he said.
