Mumbai Police want polygraph test on rape-accused DIG

August 01, 2014 02:17 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:33 pm IST - MUMBAI:

The Mumbai Police want to subject Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sunil Paraskar to a polygraph test in a rape case registered against him.

“We have moved a local court and sought permission to subject the accused to the test as he is not cooperating in the investigation,” Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria told presspersons here.

On June 23, a Mumbai-based model had lodged a complaint accusing Paraskar of sexual assault between November 2013 and March 2014 when he was posted as the Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) with the Mumbai Police.

“Last week, Paraskar underwent a bypass surgery; if he has to undergo the lie detector test, he has to be put off medicine for a week, so we are going to refuse to take the test,” Rizwan Merchant, the lawyer for the accused, told The Hindu .

A sessions court in Mumbai on Thursday extended Paraskar’s interim relief until August 5. This means he cannot be arrested till that date.
