Mumbai eye surgeon Lahane gets anticipatory bail

The session’s court, on Thursday, granted anticipatory bail to Tatyarao Lahane, Dean of JJ Hospital who has been accused of making derogatory and casteist remark against a sweeper.

A case has been registered against Dr. Lahane, a Padma Shree awardee, under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

“The court granted anticipatory bail on Thursday on condition that he would not tamper with evidence or come in contact with the complainant. He has been asked to cooperate with the investigation and report to the police station when required. In case of arrest, he can be released on surety of Rs.15,000,” said Dr. Lahane’s counsel Swapana Kode. “He can start work on Friday,” she added.
