A sessions court has sentenced a doctor to ten years rigorous imprisonment and imposed Rs 5,000 fine for raping a woman patient after drugging her.

Dr. Nadeem Salim Shaikh, practising Ayurvedic stream of medicine in suburban Bhandup, blackmailed the victim by clicking her nude photographs from his mobile phone and forced her to have sex with him repeatedly.

Police told the court that the victim was married and wished to have a child for which she was under the treatment of the doctor. The doctor raped the patient several times after threatening to show her photographs to her husband and family, according to prosecution.

After the victim lodged police complaint, the doctor was arrested and his mobile phone containing her photographs was seized by investigating officer, inspector Dattatray Bhargude, who is currently posted at Khar police station.

The court examined nine witnesses, including victim’s neighbours who informed that she wanted to have a child and was undergoing treatment for the same from the doctor. Sessions Judge A.S. Shende convicted the doctor on Friday after finding him guilty of raping the patient.

The court allowed him to appeal against conviction and asked police to produce him on March 20 to hand over copy of judgement to him.
