Mumbai: With the University of Mumbai (MU) missing the July 31 deadline to declare exam results set by Chancellor and Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, university Registrar M.A. Khan said “almost all results” will be out by August 5.

He said, “Mostly all results will be declared by August 5. The process of declaring results is on continually. So far, results to exams conducted for 173 courses have been declared. Around 90,000 answer sheets are yet to be evaluated. There will be no more non-instructional days and two lakh Commerce papers will hopefully be done today. All assessment is being done online.” In all, results to exams conducted for 477 subjects are awaited.

Despite the past week being declared as non-instructional for teachers so that they could focus only on assessing answer scripts, a note from Leeladhar Bansod, Deputy Registrar, MU said results have been declared for 173 subjects as of Monday. Results were declared for Humanities, Technical Sciences, Sciences, Management and Commerce.

The note said apart from Law and Commerce, 90% marking of all other branches had been done, and 55 more results are ready and expected to be declared soon. From last week, teachers affiliated to Nagpur, Pune, Aurangabad and Kolhapur universities too have been helping in checking answer scripts to improve assessment speed, after Education Minister Vinod Tawde appealed to them. On Monday, MU officials said of the 17,35,145 answer scripts, 2,93 lakh were still to be assessed.

Meanwhile, atwo-member State government team visited the online correction centre in Kalina to take stock. It later met the Governor and apprised him of the situation, following which the deadline was extended to August 5.

Neha Sharma, a TYBMM student from Rizvi college, said, “The experience has been bad and it hasn’t been this late before. Students have suffered the most as we are dependent on the university for our future.”

She said employers want marksheets before taking them in for jobs and internships. “Our last exam was on April 21. It has been four months and there is still no sign of our results. I have applied for a B.Ed course, and am to appear for a Common Entrance Test (CET). The exams are over but the we can’t proceed without the results. The authorities don’t answer phones. When I visited the university, I was shuttled from one place to other.”
