Mumbai: Terming his decision to support the BJP in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections a big mistake and accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of backstabbing farmers, by calling him Bhallaladeva of Baahubali , Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana (SSS) MP Raju Shetty on Monday said he will fight for the farmers’ right till the last drop of blood.
Mr. Shetty’s ‘self-appeal’ yatra reached Lalbaug in Mumbai and he will be meeting Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao on Tuesday, along with thousands of farmers to update him on their condition. The MP threatened that if he was denied permission to meet Mr. Rao, he would begin demonstration on the spot.
“He (Narendra Modi) is a Bhallaladeva , who has demolished the dreams of farmers. We fought against the Congress-NCP government of 15 years, while the BJP just watched. It was late Gopinath Munde who brought us in the National Democratic Alliance, but the last three years had been nothing but lies,” Mr. Shetty told reporters.
SSS workers are likely to reach Raj Bhavan by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, along with a form of over six lakh farmers demanding loan waiver. The yatra began in Pune nine days ago and Mr. Shetty walked all the way to Mumbai along with his supporters, claiming the pain is a retribution of his support to the BJP.
The SSS is part of the NDA at the Centre and in the State. Sadabhau Khot of the SSS is a minister in Maharashtra. According to recent news reports, Mr. Khot may join the BJP ditching the farmers’ organisation.
