Mumbai: Congress MLA Yashomati Thakur on Thursday brought ₹5 lakh cash within the State Legislature complex, handed over to her by social activist Sandeep Yeole, who has been fighting against Omkar Builders for over a month over alleged corruption in the Slum Redevelopment Project at Vikhroli.

Mr. Yeole has claimed that he was paid a bribe of ₹1 crore to work in the builder’s favour. Despite his repeated petitions to the police, government and others, no complaint has been registered.

Ms. Thakur told reporters that the activist met her in the MLA hostel and handed over the cash. “He has asked the police to arrest him, so that the matter will at least be investigated. But this transparent government and its police are neither arresting him, nor the builder,” she said.

The MLA said the government should at least act now. “If they want to file cases against me for carrying cash, then at least do that. Who is this powerful builder against whom the BJP government is not taking any action?” she asked.

“I tried to raise the issue in the Assembly, but BJP MLAs tried to shut me down, and later all the proceedings were removed from the record,” she said, before going to the Azad Maidan police station with her complaint.
