Fifteen services on the Harbour Line had to be cancelled on Thursday owing to complications with the overhead wire equipment in two separate incidents.
In the first incident, a Panvel-bound train broke down between Mansarovar and Khandeshwar stations at 12.36 p.m. after wires of the pantograph, the jointed framework that passes electric current to a train from overhead wires, got entangled. Officials took around 15 minutes to fix the problem.
Services were halted 25 minutes later, when officials noticed an overhead jumper hanging. The mishap led to a 10-minute power shutdown on the stretch and services were halted across stations.
Railway officials said services were delayed by just 10 to 15 minutes. However, commuters said they had to wait for over half an hour for resumption of services.
Subhash Gupta, president, Rail Yatri Parishad, said, “Delay in services has become a daily occurrence on the Harbour Line. I don’t not know what is being done to maintain trains during mega blocks on Sundays.”
Commuters will have to brace for more cancellations as the Central Railway has planned a four-day mega block. Thirty four services will be cancelled on Friday and Saturday, 12 on Sunday and 164 on Monday.
