Navi Mumbai: The Navi Mumbai Crime Branch unit I has arrested a minor and his partner who have been stealing two-wheelers and four-wheelers across Thane, Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, and Raigad, for performing stunts at Marine Drive.

Instruments seized

Twenty-one two-wheelers and one four-wheeler hidden in isolated areas of Navi Mumbai and Bhiwandi have been recovered. The police have also seized screwdrivers, pakkad, keys, and instruments used for making duplicate keys. “Three others, suspected to be part of the gang, are expected to be traced soon,” said Dileep Sawant, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).

Crime Branch Unit I senior police inspector Adhikrav Pol received a tip-off about the minor who was frequently seen with hi-end bikes. The police kept a watch on the 17-year-old whose location was found to be at those places every time when a bike was stolen in Navi Mumbai. “We nabbed the minor in Bhiwandi on April 13 and he spilled the beans about his partner Ali Ahmad Jibril Shah (38). Next day, Shah was arrested in Bhiwandi,” said Mr. Pol.

The minor, a Standard V drop-out, and whose parents work as labourers, was fascinated with bike riders and stunts, and was sure that he would not be caught because he could flee fast on hi-end bikes. At the time of arrest, Shah was preparing to send a Chevrolet Beat to Uttar Pradesh to a third person for its sale. “He has sent many four-wheelers to Uttar Pradesh while some bikes have been sold in scrap rates,” said Nitin Kausdikar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch).
