The Khandeshwar police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly cheated a courier by running away with a Canon camera worth ₹45,000 he had ordered from Flipkart, without paying the money.
Rupesh Patil had provided his residential address as Tulso Garden housing society in Vichumbe village, and opted for the ‘cash on delivery’ option. When Ekart delivery man Abhishek Labde called Mr. Patil to check if he was at home, Mr. Patil told him to meet him opposite Green Valley Housing Society.
He told Mr. Labde that he was short of ₹10,000, and would have to go back home to get the money. The two walked to Tulsi Garden, and Mr. Patil asked Mr. Labde to wait downstairs. Sub-inspector Sandeep Mane said, “He came back and told Mr. Labde that his mother was reluctant to hand over the money without seeing the parcel. Mr. Labde handed him the parcel. Mr. Patil returned, and told the delivery man that he did not have enough money and gave the parcel back. However, when Mr. Labde noticed that the parcel had been opened, Mr. Patil pushed him and ran away.”
Mr. Patil’s phone is switched off, and the address he provided was fake. “The courier company has lodged a complaint with us,” Mr. Mane said.
