Mumbai: Kurla police have arrested a 22-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting his employer’s five-year-old daughter on the terrace of her building. The accused was caught red-handed by the building’s security guard, who raised an alarm and informed the police.
According to the police, the victim’s father runs a general store in Kurla (West) a short distance away from his residence. The accused, who had been employed by the family for several years, worked as a helper in the shop and did odd jobs for the family.
The police said that the accused would sometimes drop the victim to her tuition classes in the evening and pick her up at night, when her father was busy.
“On Tuesday night, he picked up the victim from her tuition classes. However, instead of taking her home, he took her up to the terrace and sexually assaulted her. The building’s guard, who was also on the terrace at the time, caught the accused in the act,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajiv Jain, Zone V.
The guard raised an alarm, and residents of the building rushed to the terrace to see what was wrong. The guard also informed the police control room, which alerted the Kurla police, who sent a team to the spot.
The accused was taken to the police station, and after recording a statement from the guard and the victim, the police placed the accused under arrest and charged him with molestation under the Indian Penal Code and with sexual assault on a minor under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act.
The police will investigate if he had assaulted the victim in the past, and if he has targeted other minors.
