The Nerul police have arrested a murder accused within 24 hours after the crime occurred around 1 a.m. on Friday.

The deceased, Nitesh alias Guddu Umesh Suvarn (27), worked as an office boy for a builder, on the third floor of the BJP office building at Sector 21 A. He was allegedly shot by his colleague after a fight.

“We were alerted about the incident around 2 a.m. Our team arrested him from Bhoisar in the evening,” senior police inspector Ashok Rajput said. The accused, Gaurav Suryapal Singh (23), was hiding at a friend’s house in Bhoisar.

“Prima facie, it seems that the two men had a fight over some issue, following which the accused shot Suvarn in the chest. We suspect that he has a criminal background,” Mr. Rajput said.

According to the police, Singh, Suvarn and another man used to sleep in the Mathadi office on the same floor on some days after drinking. On Thursday night, too, they had stayed back at the office, when the fight took place.

The police are yet to recover the murder weapon.
