Mumbai: The MIDC police on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old man for raping a 32-year-old married woman, and threatening to circulate the video clips of the incident online and pass them on to her husband if she did not maintain physical relations with him.

According to the police, the accused, Wasim Mumtaz Hussain, is a distant relative of the victim. A few months ago, the victim and Hussain had started a business in Malwani, due to which they would often talk to each other. The accused would visit her at her residence in Malwani.

Around a week ago, the accused took her to a hotel in Andheri and raped her, and then told her he wanted to continue relation with her. When the victim refused, he told her he had filmed the incident and would post the video online.

The police have recovered the video recording.

According to MIDC police officials, Hussain would mentally harass the victim every day with the threats. Fed up with the harassment, she decided to reveal the matter to her husband, a driver by profession. Her husband immediately took her to the Malwani police station and lodged an FIR.

The case was later transferred to the MIDC police as the rape took place under their jurisdiction. Hussain was arrested and booked under sections relating to rape and blackmail of the Indian Penal Code and the IT Act.

He was produced in court on Thursday and sent to police custody.
