Officer acknowledges that he knows the Mumbai-based model

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sunil Paraskar, who has been accused of rape and molestation by a Mumbai-based model, was questioned for around four hours on Monday. On June 23, the 26-year-old model had lodged a complaint that she was sexually abused by Mr. Paraskar between November 2013 and March 2014 when he was the Additional Commissioner of Police (North Region) with the Mumbai Police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Kala Gavit questioned the officer in the Crime Branch office between 12.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m.

A senior police officer told The Hindu that while the officer acknowledged that he knew the victim, he denied the rape and molestation charges.

“He has accepted that he took the victim to the two places mentioned in the FIR, but claims that he showed her his Navi Mumbai residence as a prospective tenant and also took her to a bungalow in suburban Mumbai to help her with a photo shoot.

He has also affirmed visiting these places during the same period as mentioned in the FIR,” the officer said.

Preliminary report

Before entering the Crime Branch office in South Mumbai, Mr. Paraskar, speaking to presspersons, rubbished the allegations levelled against him, calling them baseless.

The Maharashtra police submitted its preliminary report in the case to the State Home Department on June 25. A senior police officer told The Hindu that the report found the officer guilty of professional misconduct.
