With the havoc caused by the August 29 downpour fresh in memory, Mumbai is bracing for another spell of rain on Wednesday. The IMD had predicted three-days rain from Sunday, but showers started only since Tuesday.

The weather stations at Santa Cruz and Colaba recorded 137 mm and 142 mm of rainfall respectively on Tuesday. In a statement, the Education Minister’s office said all educational institutions will remain closed on Wednesday, for students’ safety.

4:45 pm: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued an appeal requesting people not to “spread and trust” rumours of a cyclone warning, reports PTI. Panic messages on a cyclone went viral on social media and messaging apps on Wednesday. The BMC’s Disaster Management Cell responded by putting out tweets, clarifying that no such warning had been issued by the weather department.

“As informed by IMD there is no cyclone warning for Mumbai. Citizens r requested not to spread & trust rumour,” the Cell tweeted.

“In last 1 hr light rain recorded in Mumbai City & Western Suburbs. Moderate rain in Eastern Suburb. Trains & Road traffic normal,” it said in another tweet.

11:45 am: Heavy rains pounded the city and suburbs for the second day today. “Several parts of the metropolis, including South Mumbai, Borivali, Kandivili, Andheri and Bhandup, received heavy rainfall. However, no untoward incident has been reported so far from any part of the city," a BMC official told PTI.

11:00 am: The Mumbai Police has warned of a high tide at 12.03 pm and 6.04 pm today.

10:00 am: Western Railway (Mumbai) says all stranded long distance trains have been cleared. Suburban services are also running on all lines of Western Railway from Church Gate to Dahanu Road.

Mumbai recorded its second highest September rain in a span of 12 hours yesterday.

9:20 am Flight operations at the Mumbai airport remain affected for the second day today following heavy rains that continue to lash the metropolis. As many as 56 flights have been diverted to different airports till this morning as the main runway continues to be out of use due to the SpiceJet aircraft stuck there, an airport official said.
