A leopard entered the campus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai in Powai early on Wednesday morning remained untraceable till late night.
A team of forest officials and the police authorities searched for the leopard that is hiding inside the workshop of the Metallurgy department for more than ten hours. The efforts were still on till late night.
A staff member who was trying to open the shutter of the workshop was the first to spot the leopard, said Rashmi Udaykumar, public relations officer, IIT Mumbai.
The staff member immediately informed the security personnel on the campus who in turn called the forest officials.
Two different sized pug marks have indicated the presence of a female leopard and her cub, said a forest official who is a part of the rescue team.
The IIT management has issued a warning asking the campus residents to be cautious while moving in and around the area.
