Mumbai: A labourer was crushed to death and another was injured when part of a slab of a 95-year-old building in Gamdevi collapsed on Thursday, an incident report from the Brihanamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

Renovation of a car parking garage at Sea Side bungalow near Kemps Corner was under way. At around 1 p.m., part of the shed came down when waterproofing work was on.

Yogendra Ram (50) was declared dead on arrival at J.J. Hospital, while Kishor Ramade’s (35) condition is stable.

According to Subash Angane, police sub-inspector, Gamdevi police station, “After the plaster ripped off and hit his head, Yogendra fell unconscious. Our police van was passing by when the information was received, and he was taken to JJ hospital.”

One more labourer sustained superficial injuries and was taken to King Edward Memorial hospital by his contractor.
