Mumbai: The Amboli police on Friday arrested Vijay Dwivedi (37), the former husband of murdered actor Kritika Chaudhary, in a second case of cheating. Mr. Dwivedi is already in jail for Chaudhary’s murder.

According to the police, Mr. Dwivedi duped an aspiring actress of ₹44 lakh by promising her a role in Hindi television serial Kalash . Mr. Dwivedi allegedly told the model he owned a production house, and that he had produced many films and TV serials and was well-acquainted with many producers.

The police said that Mr. Dwivedi was booked for cheating when the model approached the police after getting suspicious of him. He was arrested on the charges of cheating, and police found he had duped many other aspiring actresses too.

Mr. Dwivedi had earlier been arrested after All-India Congress Committee general secretary Janardan Dwivedi had registered a complaint against him for posing as his relative and cheating people.

The Amboli police are also interrogating Mr. Dwivedi in connection with Chuadhary’s murder, as her family said he was harassing and threatening her for a few months before her death. Chaudhary’s decomposed body was found in her Andheri flat on June 12. While the police do not have corroborative evidence against Mr. Dwivedi, Chuadhary’s call records show the estranged couple had recently gotten in touch again. He wanted them to reconcile, but she had allegedly refused.
