Mumbai: Sanpada police on Saturday arrested four people from Govandi in connection with the ₹3.19-crore heist at the Juinagar branch of the Bank of Baroda.
They were produced in court and remanded in police custody for 10 days. The accused have been identified as Shravan Hegde, Moin Shaikh, Haji Ali Mirza Baig and Anjan Manjhi alias Anju. A police officer from Zone I said, “All four were found together at the time of arrest. Two of them have direct involvement in the case, while the other two have been arrested on suspicion. Investigation is on.”
While initial investigation focused on a gang from Jharkhand, a team of crime branch officials got leads from Malegaon and found that the accused belonged to Bainganvada in Govandi. A police officer said, “About six to eight people have been suspected of being involved in the theft. We have information that four accused are in Uttar Pradesh. A team has been sent to U.P. to nab the culprits.”
The police said that the accused sold a part of the loot to jewellers. A team of Crime Branch officers has recovered some gold from a jeweller in Malegaon.
