Judge suspended after sexual harassment charge

August 20, 2014 08:48 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 05:42 pm IST - MUMBAI:

A judge of the city sessions and civil court has been suspended following charges of sexual harassment at workplace against him. M.T. Gaikwad has been accused of inappropriate behaviour.

A departmental inquiry has been initiated against him following a preliminary inquiry. Registrar-General of the Bombay High Court Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi confirmed the report to the media.

She said a preliminary inquiry was conducted by judge S.D. Tulankar and Mr. Gaikwad was suspended after substance was found in the complaint.

Sources said a court staffer had complained about the judge when he presided over a special Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act court. Some other women staffers too made allegations of inappropriate behaviour against him during the preliminary inquiry.

The departmental inquiry against him will be presided over by a senior judge or a judge as decided by the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
