Mumbai: Despite sustaining injuries in Saturday’s partial building collapse at Chandivali, a labourer volunteered to help with the rescue operation to locate his cousin, who was also working at the demolition site and is still missing.
Shakti Kounder, sustained a minor fracture to his leg and hurt both his knees in the collapse. He managed to come out from under the debris on his own before rescue workers reached the scene. Immediately after receiving medical attention, Mr. Kounder headed back to the spot. “My cousin, Kumar Kounder, is still trapped under the rubble. I went to the spot and convinced them to let me operate the JCB vehicles being used to clear the debris,” he told The Hindu .
Mr. Kounder, however, could operate the JCB for only a couple of hours before pain became unbearable and he had to stop. But he hasn’t lost hope.
“I have been trying to call the contractor for updates but they are not being responsive. I don’t even know what the status at the spot is.” he said.
