Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, co-accused in the Sheena Bora murder case, sought permission from the special CBI court on Thursday to travel to Guwahati, where a local court there is hearing a case filed by her estranged son Mikhail Bora seeking execution of his grandmother’s will. She told the court that she will oppose Mekhail’s claim on Sheena’s share of ancestral property.

Mr. Bora has moved the Guwahati district court, seeking a court verification of the will made by his grandmother Durga Rani Bora, Ms. Mukerjea told the court in Mumbai. The Guwahati court has directed that if Ms. Mukerjea, who is lodged in a prison here, had any objections, she should submit them in person or through a lawyer. She said her mother had not said that in the event of Sheena’s death, her share will go to Mekhail.

Ms. Mukerjea’s mother Durga Rani Bora died in October 2015. In her will dated April 30, 2012, she had bequeathed a piece of land, a two-storied house and two other structures in Guwahati to Sheena and her brother Mekhail. The latter’s application said the 2012 will revoked one made in 2009, and gave a major chunk of assets to him.

On March 26, 1992 Ms. Mukerjea had declared on a five-rupee stamp paper that she was incapable of looking after her children and had given Sheena, 4, and Mekhail, 3, to her parents for adoption. On April 30, 2012, Mrs Rani had walked into the sub-registrar’s office at Kamrup district in Assam, to change her original will dated November 4, 2009 declaring Sheena and Mekhail owners of the ancestral property.

The changed will left Sheena out, giving her only a piece of the property at Ms. Mukerjea’s behest. The CBI team had also recovered the email trail which had forced her parents to change their will by threatening to cut off financial help.

The chargesheet says, “The recent developments pertained to the nature of marriage of Durga Rani’s granddaughter Sheena with Rahul. Durga Rani went on to write that Sheena had gotten along with Rahul without their knowledge and consent. And because ‘she has left us alone with my husband and my grandson Mekhail, and have decided to settle with her husband…I do here by revoke/cancel my previous ‘Will’.”

Meanwhile, the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case was further stayed because Peter and Ms. Mukerjea moved the HC against the deposition of a police officer who was using the statement of an accused-turned-approver in the case. The CBI also sought time to file its reply. The court adjourned the matter till March 30.
