Mumbai: Amid speculation that international furniture giant IKEA is keen on opening a second store in the city, its CEO Peter Betzel on Tuesday met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to discuss the firm’s expansion plans.

Sources said IKEA is pushing for speedy government clearances for the new store, expected to open in Mumbai in 2018. Later, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said on Twitter that Mr. Fadnavis had assured full support to the Swedish firm. Government officers said they are pushing for a store in Nagpur.

Praveen Pardeshi, Principal Secretary to the CM, said, “We had a fruitful discussion. The work on their first store has started. They are keen on opening a few more across Maharashtra.”
