Actor Salman Khan obtained a driving licence only in 2004, and did not have one at the time of the 2002 hit-and-run case, an RTO officer told the court here on Monday.

“After the 2002 hit-and-run accident, Salman Khan was directed by the police to submit his driving licence, but he did not. On investigation, we came to know that he didn't have one until 2004,” special public prosecutor Pradeep Gharat said. “The RTO officer, Andheri, was called to the court today to depose.”

The RTO officer said he gave this information to the Bandra police station, which was investigating the case. “According to our record, he was issued license on 17th August 2004. It is valid till 2015.”

The court also recorded the evidence of a Sub-Inspector who took Salman Khan from the Bandra police station to J.J. Hospital for medical examination. He said he was ordered by his superiors to do so. “The doctor took blood sample on our request. Then I took Salman back to Bandra police station,” he said.

During his cross examination, he said he did not recall the name of the constable to whom blood sample was handed over.
