Gupte seeks action against fake Twitter account

Mumbai: Singer and filmmaker Avdhoot Gupte on Wednesday submitted a complaint to the cyber police saying that a fake Twitter account had been created in his name, and had been used to post controversial comments.

Mr. Gupte was the target of outrage earlier this month when unknown persons tweeted from an account in his name about the ongoing farmers’ strike. The tweet, which was in Marathi, said no one cared if someone went on strike, and that a loan waiver would cause the economy to sink.

Mr. Gupte submitted an application seeking action against the culprits at the cyber police station in Bandra Kurla Complex. “We have received the application. No FIR has been registered as of now,” said a cyber police officer.
