A Govandi resident, Adil Mehboob Khan (27), allegedly raped his wife in the presence of his two brothers, one of whom recorded the incident on his mobile phone. The 23-year-old victim from Kopri village has registered a case against all three of them.

The victim had married Khan six years ago but left him two months ago as he did not give her money to run the house or meet her personal expenses. Police Inspector Prafulla Bhingarde from APMC Police Station said, “According to the victim, the accused also was suffering from tuberculosis and would not support her financially. She used to take money from her mother in Sanpada to run the house. Frustrated, she left him and began living in a rented house in Kopri village, Vashi, along with their three-and-a-half-year-old daughter.”

Khan visited her frequently so he could meet their daughter. On Wednesday morning, the accused went there as usual but his wife informed him that the daughter was with her grandmother for a few days. “The accused left, but returned at around 8 p.m.. He entered from the front door, locked it from inside and his brother and cousin entered from the open back door,” Mr. Bhingarde said.

The victim’s brother, Amir Khan (24), and cousin, Ajeem Khan (23), started abusing the victim and threatened to teach her a lesson. While Amir held her hands tight from behind, her husband pinned her down and allegedly raped her. Mr. Bhingarde said, “Ajeem was recording the incident on his mobile. The victim saw him using the phone but she was not sure if he was clicking photographs or recording the incident. Her husband shut her mouth to muffle her cries for help. All three accused are residents of Govandi and run a bakery business in Shivaji Nagar.”

After the rape, the accused fled on an Activa that belonged to the victim’s husband. The victim tried raising an alarm, but the surroundings were too noisy for anyone to hear her cries, said Mr. Bhingarde.

All three accused are absconding and APMC police are searching for them.A case has been registered against the three under Sections 376 (1) (rape); 376 (B) (sexual intercourse with a wife during separation); 452 (trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint); 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt); 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
