Starting March 26, the sessions court in Mumbai will commence fresh examination of witnesses in the 2002 hit-and-run case against actor Salman Khan. The court on Tuesday concluded all formalities for the trial, after prosecution submitted the essential documents. Earlier, the prosecution had submitted a list of witnesses to the court. "Today we submitted documents such as death certificate of the victim who was killed in the mishap and the injury certificates of those who had sustained wounds," Public Prosecutor Jagannath Kenjalkar said.
In September 2002, one person was killed and four injured after the actor’s SUV allegedly jumped over a footpath where the victims were sleeping. Mr. Khan was earlier booked for rash and negligent driving. But later, the court observed that he could be charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. He then moved an application for fresh examination of witnesses on the grounds that the witnesses were previously examined for lesser charges against him. His application was granted by the court. On Tuesday, the court concluded all the formalities for fresh trial.
