The Aarey police have arrested four accused in connection with the murder of a 45-year-old woman whose body was found in a forest area near Aarey Colony on Monday morning.

Aarey police said passers-by spotted the body and informed the police control room at around 5.30 a.m. She was rushed to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivali where she was declared dead before admission. The police said the woman was hit on the head with a heavy and blunt object, and have registered a case of murder against unknown persons.

On Monday afternoon, MIDC police informed that a missing person’s complaint had been registered at 12.30 a.m. on Monday. The woman was identified as Shardabai Khotkar, a labourer who worked in an MIDC godown in Andheri. Her son in his complaint said his mother had been missing since Sunday afternoon.

An officer said, “Our teams examined the footage of the CCTVs around the godown where she worked. We saw four men leave the godown and towards Aarey on a four-wheeler late on Sunday night. The men were seen heading to the spot where Khotkar’s body was found on Monday morning.”

The police made inquiries in MIDC area and found that the four men worked in an adjacent godown. After mapping their cell phone locations, the police picked up the accused on Monday night and arrested them.

Vinay Rathod, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XII), said, “The finer details of the murder, how the body was dumped and the motive behind the killing are still being probed. The accused are being interrogated.” The post-mortem examination has ruled out sexual assault, officials said.
