Four Goa government departments to go cashless

The Goa Government has nominated four State-run departments and agencies to move to cashless payments. The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the Public Works, Water, and Electricity Departments, are those which will pilot this project.

On the heels of the demonetisation move initiated by the Centre recently, an announcement was made by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar last week here, stating that Goa would be the first state to go ‘cashless’.

A workshop to train the staff, contractors and consultants of the departments in cashless transactions and in operations was conducted by GSIDC in association with HDFC Bank and State Bank of India. It covered instructions in online and mobile transactions through United Payments Interface (UPI), security measures and transaction implementation processes. The workshop aimed to sensitise participants towards making everyday domestic and commercial transactions cashless.

Speaking at the workshop, BJP MLA and head of GSIDC, Siddharth Kunkolienkar said similar workshops will be conducted to encourage consultants and contractors to shift to paying sub-contractors and labourers through electronic payments, using different modes of electronic transfers.
