Mumbai: In a bid to make Maharashtra a trillion-dollar economy by 2025, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday unveiled a five-point programme at the Magnetic Maharashtra summit on Sunday. The programme targets high growth sectors and unskilled agricultural labourers, and focuses on achieving rapid infrastructure growth.
He said, “If we look at the State’s growth trajectory, we are growing at 9.3% and our GDP today is $400 billion. If we grow at the same speed, the dream of a trillion-dollar economy will be achieved by 2030, but we aim to get there by 2025.”
Mr. Fadnavis said, “We want to unlock the potential of high growth centres. In five to 10 years, the material economy will be taken over by the digital economy. Artificial intelligence, robotics, banking and financial services aided by digital technology, animation are the important areas to concentrate upon.”
He also spoke on unlocking the potential of underemployed agricultural labourers, and said the government is bringing in special policy reforms for services and industry. Another key area, the CM said, was creating growth corridors connecting Mumbai and JNPT to underdeveloped areas in the State.
“The skill gap of 34 lakh skilled workers will be filled by extending skill development to these labourers and migrating them to different sectors of the economy is the second big idea,” he said.
