May 03, 2014 10:41 am | Updated 11:29 am IST - MUMBAI:

The Mumbai police on Friday arrested a flower vendor for allegedly raping a 29-year-old woman. The accused, who lives in the victim's neighbourhood, had allegedly visited her flat in a housing society in Tilak Nagar in Central Mumbai under the pretext of selling flowers.

Police claims that the accused had been closely monitoring the victim's movements for the past two months and on Thursday morning, when he was sure she was alone at home, he allegedly entered her home and raped her.

The victim confided in her husband on Thursday night and the couple lodged a complaint late on Friday morning. The accused identified as S. Bhagitkar was arrested on Friday.

A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 376 (rape), 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation).
