A massive fire broke out on the second floor of a three-storey showroom on the Kalyan-Bhiwandi road on Tuesday morning. The fire brigade brought the blaze under control within an hour. The police said no casualties were reported.

The Kongaon police said the fire broke out at 5 a.m. in the second floor of Bhoomi World building, used as a warehouse to store sanitaryware. The police said the Thane Police Control Room received a call informing them about the fire at 5.30 a.m. The Kongaon police station, under whose jurisdiction the area falls, then rushed its teams to the spot. Police Inspector D.D. Yedke said, “The fire brigade had already reached the spot by the time our teams got there at around 5.40 a.m.”

Mr. Yedke said thunder and lightning could have led to a short circuit. “The owner of the warehouse will be arriving from Delhi. We will then have a better idea of the losses suffered due to the fire.”
