Farmers’ children to go on fast

August 14, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 08:56 am IST - Mumbai:

The children of farmers will observe a day-long hunger strike on Independence Day to demand the rollback of ‘anti-farmer’ laws: the Land Ceiling Act, the Essential Services Act and the Land Acquisition Act.

Abhijeet Patil Falke, president, Bhumiputra Sangharsh Vahini, said, “We have decided to hold an ‘ atmaklesh andolan ’ at Azad Maidan on August 15, to demand freedom for farmers from the clutches of the legislation.” He said the government had cheated the farmers and failed to resolve the issues affecting them. Mr. Falke said that the children of farmers all across the State would turn up in large numbers and go on a day-long fast. — PTI
