Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the municipal corporation to put in place a hold-and-disperse mechanism in all commercial spaces to deal with a crisis situation during the monsoon. In a meeting on rain preparedness on Thursday, Fadnavis directed the BMC and the Railways to complete all their work by May 31, including repair works on roads, rail lines and low-lying areas.

The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the dispersal mechanism has been prepared by the BMC, which intends to implement it on the high tide days of the monsoon, senior officials said. “The idea is that during high tide and crisis time, the office crowd should not be released onto to the platforms at one go. The CM has insisted this dispersal should now be done in a staggered manner,” a senior official said.

Fadnavis also directed BMC to complete the appointment of contractors for putting in place pumping units at 66 spots which report severe flooding every year. The civic body was also told to complete preparations at 270 flooding spots by the end of this month. The completion of drain cleaning works on the Mithi river and other major spots must also be completed, he said. The Railways was told to ensure the train network doesn’t come to a halt due to waterlogging and heavy rainfall.
